Effective Spend is looking for an experienced Public Relations Manager to join our innovative SEO + Digital PR team. We approach digital PR through an SEO lens, so we are looking for an accomplished PR practitioner who is also familiar with SEO or interested in expanding their skills and knowledge base within digital marketing.
The ideal candidate has an agency background with extensive hands-on experience creating and executing PR strategies, successfully pitching to leading online publications, and building relationships with digital media contacts.
The Digital PR Manager will have the opportunity to lead the expansion of our Digital PR department by growing, managing, and mentoring a team of junior PR Specialists and Strategists.
Key Responsibilities:
- Growing and managing a team of junior PR Specialists & Strategist
- Be able to scale a team through the successful training, mentoring, and management of direct reports
- Organize your team for client success, clearly communicating responsibilities to ultimately achieve highly professional meetings, insightful reports, etc.
- Owning PR and link building strategies across your accounts; from goal setting to strategy ideation to execution
- Drive KPIs, explain performance to clients, and delegate support where necessary for client success
- Own the monthly Digital PR reporting (analyzing press coverage and backlinks using SEO metrics and KPIs)
- Proactively look for ways to perfect/refine the processes within each of your accounts
- Executing proactive pitching and tactical link building efforts for high priority accounts on a weekly basis
- Creating highly targeted media lists for pitching and link building outreach. This includes researching opportunities and contacts at leading digital publications, as well as other businesses, nonprofit organizations, universities, government agencies, etc.
- Establishing meaningful relationships with media and other content producers to secure high authority links and high-quality press coverage for clients
- Reviewing content for both on-page and off-page purposes for quality of work, grammatical errors, and following brand guidelines
- This includes reviewing your team’s pitches, press materials (press releases, media alerts, etc.), guest articles, keyword-driven blog posts, etc.
- Managing client relations by being the go-to expert for clients. Always looking for new innovative ideas to solve problems, and finding new opportunities to further client success
Qualifications / Requirements:
- 3-5 years of professional, full-time PR experience
- 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field strongly preferred
- Agency experience strongly preferred
- Experience managing direct reports strongly preferred
- Proficient with PR platforms (e.g. Cision, HARO)
- Excellent writing skills, applicable to both long and short-form content pieces, pitching, drafting press materials, etc.
- Strong interpersonal skills – able to effectively build and manage relationships with clients, direct reports, media, bloggers, etc.
- Strong organizational skills, time management skills, and high attention to detail
- Familiar with Google Analytics or other website reporting tools and able to extract meaningful insights from data analysis
- SEO experience, particularly with link building, is a strong plus but not required
- Familiarity with SEO platforms (e.g. MOZ, Ahrefs, SEM Rush), is a strong plus but not required
