Rising in the Ranks: Effective Spend Makes Inc. 5000 for 3rd Straight Year

Representing Austin for the third year in a row, Effective Spend has made the Inc. 5000 list as one of the fastest-growing companies in the nation! With no signs of slowing down, Effective Spend has risen nearly 400 positions from the company’s first appearance on the list, placing #3,323 in the 2021 rankings.

As a repeat honoree, Effective Spend stands as a member of an even more exclusive club with only about half of 2021’s Inc. 5000 being returning members. Effective Spend is also one of only 109 Austin companies on this year’s list. Combined with their fellow Austin companies, Effective Spend helped bring in $3.9 billion and add 8,312 jobs to the local area over the last year.

About Effective Spend: Taking 2020 Head-On

2020 was a turbulent year for everyone, but due to a pre-existing flexible workplace structure, Effective Spend was able to adapt to working remotely on the fly and keep their positive momentum rolling. Over the last three years, Effective Spend has seen a 108% growth in revenue and a 71% growth in their full-time team going from 28 to 48 total people with even more being brought on in 2021.

Alongside this growth in revenue and staff, Effective Spend has added creative design and video animation services to their portfolio and opened a new office in Los Angeles. Both were natural progressions in the company to better address clients’ needs, but working remotely provided a unique opportunity to gradually establish ourselves on the west coast without immediate overhead.

“I’m proud of how our team has come together and rolled with the punches over the last year,” said Natalia Wulfe, Co-Owner & CMO. “We’ve got a great group here filled with individuals who are up for any challenge that comes their way and honors like the Inc. 5000 are a testament to that.”

About the Inc. 5000 and its Methodology

The Inc. 5000 is a list of the fastest-growing private companies in the nation. Started in 1982, this list represents a unique look at the most successful companies within the American economy’s most dynamic segment—its independent small businesses.

Not only have the companies on the 2021 Inc. 5000 been very competitive within their markets, but this year’s list also proved especially resilient and flexible given 2020’s unprecedented challenges. Among the 5,000, the average median three-year growth rate soared to 543 percent, and median revenue reached $11.1 million. Together, those companies added more than 610,000 jobs over the past three years.

Companies on the 2021 Inc. 5000 are ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2017 to 2020. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2017. They must be U.S.-based, privately held, for-profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2020. (Since then, some on the list may have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2017 is $100,000; the minimum for 2020 is $2 million.

“The 2021 Inc. 5000 list feels like one of the most important rosters of companies ever compiled,” says Scott Omelianuk, editor-in-chief of Inc. “Building one of the fastest-growing companies in America in any year is a remarkable achievement. Building one in the crisis we’ve lived through is just plain amazing. This kind of accomplishment comes with hard work, smart pivots, great leadership, and the help of a whole lot of people.”
